Custom Domain for End-to-End Encrypted Mailbox

Today I have some good news to share with all of you.

I was invited to try out lavaboom. I couldn't wait to get my hands on it and test it out. The guys did a great job. There are still some things to fine tune, but their design made me jealous. I'm glad to welcome them and wish them much success.

I'm also excited to let you know that the Custom Domain feature is finally here thanks to a request from 15 different votes! I tried to write a custom domain tutorial but I'm not sure if this is comprehensive enough. I was writing it after 12 hours of coding and my brain wasn't as sharp as usual.

It was exciting to watch the voting tug of war between the custom domain feature and the Android app for the last two weeks. Like I would be able to just wake up at night and write an Android app from scratch in no time..

Unfortunately I've never written a smartphone app, so it's a tough call deciding right now before we have premium accounts when we should start investing in app developing.

In the meantime, I started rewriting the front-end and back-end in React. It will greatly improve performance and get rid of some browser incompatibilities.

Some obvious benefits are:

  • New front-end will let people run the website locally and communicate with the server via API calls
  • Learning React will help me with React Native to write smartphone apps for Android and iOS.

All that will take a few months because these are major updates. So please don't get impatient waiting for the Android app any time before August.

Some less complicated things like 2Factor will be done during this time.
